If you want to stay healthy, you should try to avoid dental issues by getting them diagnosed before they develop into bigger conditions. These problems can be identified during a dental exam for yourself and your whole family. While the mouth is examined during a bi-annual dental cleaning, a dental exam consists of a more thorough analysis. Dental examinations at Contemporary & Esthetic Dentistry assess your overall oral health by looking for tooth decay, signs of oral cancer, and other diseases. Dr. Marianna Farber will determine your need for procedures and look for problems with your bite and jaw. Digital images will also be used for a better view of the hidden problems in your teeth, jaw, and gums. If you live near New York, NY, make an appointment for a dental exam for your family at Contemporary & Esthetic Dentistry.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is an abnormal group of cells in the mouth, including the gums, jawbone, lips, tongue, throat, and salivary glands. Each dental examination at Contemporary & Esthetic Dentistry will include a screening for oral cancer to check for any symptoms including inflammation, sores, lesions, and lumps. Dr. Farber will also feel your neck and jaw for abnormal growths. Should any areas of concern be discovered, a biopsy can be done or you may need care from a specialist.

"I had Dr. Farber place porcelain veneers on my teeth a few years ago and they look as good today as the day they were first bonded on, I moved overseas but still always come in to see her for my follow ups and cleanings when I’m in town, wouldn’t go anywhere else."- M.B. / Google / Sep 18, 2019
"I had an awesome experience at my dental appointment with Dr. Farber, I came in needing my tooth pulled because it cracked it half, I was mortified, she used some new machine and got it out in no time, painless and I had no pain or swelling afterwards, exceeded my expectations above and beyond."- A.B. / Google / Sep 12, 2019
"Dr. Farber is my favorite dentist, I came in with two teeth that chipped, everything from beginning to end of the procedure seemed as easy and painless as a dental visit can be, I was even able to see what my teeth looked like before and after the procedure with the photos she took, it was probably the most pleasant dental experience I’ve had, and I have had many!"- P.F. / Google / Jun 19, 2019
"Always on time, very efficient and superb beside manners."- K.L. / Demandforce / Jun 05, 2019
New York residents of any age should receive a dental examination every year. Some of the most common conditions, such as periodontal disease (the top reason for tooth loss), do not have signs you can see. However, if concerns are noticed early, you are more likely to have more treatment options.
The ADA (American Dental Association) suggests that children visit a dentist before they turn one year old. Dr. Farber can talk about common problems including using pacifiers, teething, and baby bottle tooth decay. Our team at Contemporary & Esthetic Dentistry can teach you ways to clean and care for your baby's oral health so they develop good habits early in life. Dental examinations are also crucial for older children as their teeth, gums, and jaw develop.
What To Expect
Your appointment will begin with a cursory evaluation of your teeth, gums, tongue, throat, roof of your mouth, inside your cheeks, and other checkpoints. This includes checking for symptoms of oral cancer in your mouth. Dr. Farber or a member of her team may take digital x-rays and check for abnormal gum tissue. Dr. Farber will evaluate your neck, head, and jaw, including the bite and temporomandibular joints (TMJ). She will then discuss any concerns discovered and identify your treatment options. Dr. Farber will also go over any other conditions you may have, prescriptions you are taking, and if they might affect your dental health by causing tooth decay or dry mouth. Lastly, she will check any restorations you have, such as bridges and dentures, to assess their wear and fit.
When to schedule your next appointment will be based on the results of your exam. If Dr. Farber doesn't find any problems, then you can follow a home oral care routine with flossing and brushing every day, plus yearly dental examinations and twice yearly professional cleanings at Contemporary & Esthetic Dentistry. If Dr. Farber does find anything that needs to be treated, procedures can be reviewed and planned.
Since a dental exam is so important to your dental health, it's usually covered by dental insurance. Our office can talk to your insurance company to understand your coverage and any personal expenses. If you don't have insurance, Contemporary & Esthetic Dentistry takes several payments, including medical financing. Dr. Farber works with you to help you afford good dental health.
