As a more affordable cosmetic procedure, dental bonding and contouring can usually be done in one quick visit at Contemporary & Esthetic Dentistry. Unlike with dental crowns or veneers, dental bonding and contouring does not require any prep work to your teeth. Dental bonding and contouring is ideal for minor flaws, but if you want bigger improvements, a different restorative or cosmetic treatment may be better suited for your needs. During your consultation, Dr. Farber will listen to your needs and wants and then discuss your treatment options.
What To Expect
Bonding and contouring will typically be completed in a single appointment at our office in New York. Anesthesia is usually not necessary; however, options for sedation may be reviewed with Dr. Farber during your consultation for concerns like fear, anxiety, and a strong gag reflex. As soon as you're ready, Dr. Farber will apply the bonding material to the desired areas aided by one of her assistants. The composite resin will be set with more layers added, as needed. After the layers of composite resin are set, Dr. Farber will shape and smooth the composite resin and your natural enamel for a beautiful result.
Once your bonding and contouring procedure is complete, it's important to not consume staining drinks and food (such as tea, coffee, and tobacco) for at least two days, and you should clean your teeth immediately after eating. The bonding material can stain and chip, so you should be careful to not bite hard objects like hard candy, pens, and fingernails. Teeth that have been bonded and contoured need to be cared for like natural teeth with daily flossing, brushing, and mouthwash. Dental cleanings at Contemporary & Esthetic Dentistry can also help to polish away stains from the bonding material. With good care, bonding and contouring may last as long as ten years. At your dental examination, Dr. Farber can help you determine if your dental bonding and contouring procedure should be done again to refresh your smile.
Bonding and contouring is an aesthetic treatment, so it's typically not paid for by insurance. Our office can talk to your dental insurance company to double check if it is covered; however, you will probably need to pay for the cost of the treatment on your own.
